Sunday Scripture: He'll Never Leave You Thirsty
The Living Water Runs Deep...
Hi angels,
God has really struck me with wisdom on the concept of Him being the living water over the last few weeks, and it’s so much deeper than I first understood it to be (no pun intended).
If you haven’t studied the story of the Samaritan woman at the well, I highly suggest digging into it because it’s proof that God’s love is the only love we need, it sustains you, it washes away your past, and it fills you up in a way nothing else can.
We’ve been talking a lot about love since we launched the First Love collection, and John 4:14 is what inspired the Living Water Pendant (that the girlies are loving, by the way)
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” — John 4:14
God’s invitation is simple: “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters” (Isaiah 55:1), so just come, just drink, it’s already yours.
GOD WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU THIRSTY
Okay so in this world, we’re constantly trying to quench our thirst with social media, shopping, gossip, success, money, validation, you know, all the things, and we keep coming back empty because literally none of these things were designed to fill us the way God does.
The woman at the well was doing the same thing, and by the time Jesus met her, she’d had five husbands, and the man she was living with wasn’t even her husband (not judging), so she was drawing water at noon, the hottest part of the day, because she was avoiding everyone in the village since she was ashamed, rejected, hiding.
And then Jesus showed up, and He didn’t shame her or condemn her, He just told her the truth and offered her living water, the kind of love that would satisfy her completely and forever.
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” — John 4:13-14
Translation: “I’m the source you’ve been searching for, so drink from Me and you’ll never be thirsty again.”
We are ALL the woman at the well...maybe it’s not five husbands for you, maybe it’s perfectionism, people-pleasing, Instagram likes, your job title, your relationship status, your body, your bank account, or maybe it’s childhood trauma, mommy issues, daddy issues, abandonment, rejection, comparison, the need to be seen, the need to be loved.
We all have something that makes us seek love and validation from outside of us, and God is literally saying: “You don’t have to keep searching because I’m right here, I’ve always been here, so drink from Me and you’ll never be thirsty again.”
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” — Psalm 42:1
If we just leaned on His love instead of chasing temporary fixes, we’d have so much more peace!
LIVING WATER IS THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVING INSIDE YOU
“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.” — John 7:37-39
You’re not just receiving love FROM God, you’re receiving God HIMSELF living inside you.
God has also been highlighting to me the supernatural healing that happens during water baptism because water itself is supernatural. IDK about you, but I hear God the clearest in the bath, the shower, or when I’m in the ocean since there’s something about water that washes, cleanses, purifies, and makes room for him.
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” — Acts 2:38
When we get baptized, we become a new creation, and the old is washed away, the sin, the shame, the guilt, the past, all of it, gone.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
And once you’re a new creation, you are seated in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), and God sees you as pure, righteous, whole, so your call now is to bring that heaven down to earth (Matthew 6:10), which is literally the whole mission of God’s Favorite!
Once you drink from the living water, it fills you up and it overflows from you to others, so rivers of living water flow from within you (John 7:38), and before you know it, you’re in heaven to earth!
THIS WATER NEVER RUNS OUT
This water becomes a spring of water welling up to eternal life (John 4:14), which means it’s eternal, never-ending, always-flowing life that satisfies you completely and forever.
YOUR PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
Father,
I receive Your love fully in my heart today.
I accept myself as a new creation, with a new heart that can receive Your love completely.
Let Your love wash over me and baptize me with Your living water, and let that love penetrate my cells, my very being, every part of me that’s been searching for fulfillment in the wrong places.
I release anything keeping me from Your will, and I let go of the debris, the fear, the control, the need to figure it all out, and I land in the pure river of Your grace and Your will for me.
Let me flow with Your will, let me trust Your guidance, and let me stop searching and start resting in the love that’s already mine.
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” (John 4:14)
May I never be thirsty, and may I always turn to You, and You alone, to fulfill me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
See you next Sunday
